Nebraska  Region Thrivent Financial office honors John Taylor with Volunteer Excellence Award.

John Taylor, Vice President of Habitat for Humanity of Sarpy County, has been awarded the Thrivent Financial for Lutherans Nebraska Region Volunteer Excellence Award in the Retiree category.

Thrivent Financial selected John for this honor because of his dedication to helping others through volunteerism and service using Thrivent programs in 2006. During the year, John served as President of the Southeast Douglas-Sarpy County Thrivent Chapter. He was actively involved in his congregation, Thanksgiving Lutheran church, led disaster relief trips to the Gulf Coast area, and served as a board member of the Sarpy County Habitat for Humanity. In 2006, two Thrivent Builds homes were built in partnership with the Sarpy County Habitat for Humanity and two more are scheduled for 2007.

As a faith-based not-for-profit organization, Thrivent Financial and its members give back to congregations and communities. Members are organized into 1,362 local chapters and conduct approximately 75,000 volunteer activities each year.

“John is very deserving of this prestigious honor,” said Dennis Engelbart, manager of Lutheran community services for the Thrivent Financial Nebraska Region. “His care stands out among thousands of Thrivent Financial members who do so much to lend a hand to their church and community. John’s example is one that we all can applaud.”

“No matter their age, Thrivent Financial members can be found volunteering to improve the community around them,” said Brad Hewitt, Thrivent Financial senior vice president, fraternal operations. “We are delighted to honor John for leveraging Thrivent Financial resources and programs to meet real needs in the community. He truly merits this Volunteer Excellence Award.”

Thrivent Financial provided $250 in John’s name to Sarpy County Habitat for Humanity, the charitable organization of his choice. John will also be honored at a reception at Thanksgiving Lutheran Church on Sunday, July 1st 2007. This recognition reception will also coincide with a visit by the Thrivent Builds Mobile, a one-of-a-kind, 67-foot interactive exhibit helping people experience—if only for a few minutes—what it means to live in substandard housing and educating them about what they can do to help.
