Youth Photo Contest


Habitat for Humanity’s Youth Programs department is looking for photos of youth involvement in Habitat for Humanity – both on and off the work site. We’re looking for photos of campus chapter events and meetings, Youth United projects, Collegiate Challenge trips, Act! Speak! Build! Week activities – anything that highlights young people working with Habitat! You can also find all this information at HFHI website.

Who can participate?
This contest is open to all young people between the ages of 18 and 25. Photos must be taken and submitted by the student.

Submissions will only be accepted from amateurs; professional photographers are not eligible for prizes. Habitat for Humanity International staff and relatives of Habitat for Humanity International staff are also not eligible for prizes.

What is the prize?
There will be one winner in each of the four categories. All winners will have their photos published on the Habitat Web site and will receive a certificate, along with a Habitat baseball cap and t-shirt.

The Grand Prize winner will have the chance to travel the world and build with Habitat! The Grand Prize winner will receive up to $1,500 toward a Global Village trip of his/her choice. Habitat’s Global Village program offers volunteers the opportunity to be part of a short-term international mission trip to build with Habitat in another country, or in the U.S. For more information about the Global Village program, visit www.habitat.org/gv.

What are the categories?
The four categories are:

Building – photos of youth on the build site
Fund Raising – photos of youth raising funds for Habitat for Humanity
Advocacy – photos of youth advocating for affordable housing issues in their community
Education – photos of youth letting people know about Habitat’s mission and work

All submissions must indicate which category they are being submitted for.

What are the guidelines for submissions?
Photos MUST be accompanied by a complete caption. Photos without complete captions will be disqualified. More tips on how to write complete captions

How do I submit photos?
All photos must be submitted by the person who took them. Photos must be submitted in digital format, via e-mail – either from a digital camera or scanner from a print.

E-mail submissions, along with the necessary information, to Youth Program by December 31, 2006.

Winners will be notified by February 10, 2006.

PLEASE NOTE THAT SUBMISSION OF A PHOTO(S) IMPLIES CONSENT BY THE PHOTOGRAPHER FOR THE IMAGE(S) TO BE USED BY HABITAT FOR HUMANITY INTERNATIONAL AND ALL ITS OFFICES AND AFFILIATES AND DESIGNATES AS IS SEEN FIT WITHOUT FURTHER CONSENT FROM THE PHOTOGRAPHER. SUBJECTS IN A PHOTO SHOULD ALSO BE ONLY PEOPLE ON HABITAT BUILD SITES WHO HAVE SIGNED IMAGE RELEASES OR PEOPLE IN PUBLIC PLACES WHOSE IMAGE WAS OBTAINED WITHOUT THE USE OF ANY EXTRAORDINARY MEASURES AND WHOSE IMAGE CAPTION INCLUDES INFORMATION TO THAT EFFECT, E.G. “PHOTO TAKEN IN PUBLIC PLACE”.
