Youths for Sarpy Habitat Award


To earn the Youths for Sarpy Habitat Award, you must complete the four steps to participation, which are: Learn, Act, Reflect, and Celebrate!

Before partaking on the first three steps, it is required that participants and their parent/guardian review and sign the Waiver of Liability for Minors, then send this liability waiver to: Habitat for Humanity of Sarpy County. 1) Learn. You must attend one of the following Habitat for Humanity of Sarpy County events or meetings:

House Dedication
Groundbreaking Ceremony
Board of Directors Meetings
Committee Meeting
Arrange visit to a build site (call 292-6560 to make appointment)
Invite Habitat volunteer/family to speak to your club, church, school, etc.
Arrange meeting with Exec. Director to learn about Habitat (call 292-6560 for appointment)


2) Act. Choose one of the following: (* means call 292-6560 before doing this project, # means call 292-6560 after doing this project to find out how to turn the project in to Sarpy Habitat)

lead a devotion at the job site *
interview a homeowner or volunteer for an article for our Web site or newsletter *
provide and bring lunch to the job site for the construction volunteers*
provide and bring a snack to the job site for the construction volunteers*
go door-to-door or business-to-business collecting spare change for Sarpy Habitat (an adult must accompany you) #
make a poster about Sarpy Habitat and ask your church, school, or local businesses to display the poster
lead a prayer, sing, or play music at a home dedication *
collect canned goods and nonperishable food items for new Habitat homeowners #
construct a small project such as bird house, painted flower pot, or wind chime for a new Habitat homeowner #
hold a bake sale to raise money for Sarpy Habitat #
collect Aluminum cans and donate the money earned from recycling to Sarpy Habitat #
Plan an activity for Act! Speak! Build! Week of March 31-April 6, 2008 *


3) Reflect – Reflect on your Habitat experience and show this reflection by creating one of the following:

take a photograph which shows your feelings about Sarpy Habitat
make a painting about your experience with Sarpy Habitat
draw a picture which shows your feeling about Sarpy Habitat or reflects your experience with Sarpy Habitat
create a play about your experience and perform this play at your church, school, etc.
write an essay about your experience with Sarpy Habitat
Turn your creation into the Habitat office, 119 W. Mission Ave.,
Suite F, weekdays between 9a.m. and 3 p.m


4) Celebrate! Turn in your Youths for Sarpy Habitat participation form, along with any artwork, stories, essays, or other items you’ve created. Some of the items made could be shown on our Web site, but to preserve the privacy of participants only the project creator’s first name will be used.
When you have completed all fours steps, fill out the Sarpy Youths for Habitat Participation Form.
